The Palm Island Community Company (PICC) Bwgcolman Healing Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) delivering targeted, culturally safe smoking cessation support to the Palm Island Community.

Our team works in collaboration with the Bwgcolman Healing Service and other local Service Providers to address the high rates of smoking and vaping which often leads to chronic conditions.

Our Approach to Smoking Cessation

The Bwgcolman Healing Service integrates tobacco reduction within its practice and social-emotional wellbeing frameworks through:

  • Culturally Safe Counselling provided in culturally responsive environments with a focus on holistic wellness through yarning about the smokes and referral to services like the Aboriginal Quitline Counselling Service on 13 78 48.
  • Integrated Team Care: Bwgcolman Healing clinicians and the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Team can work with you to design a tailored plan to help you Quit and we can provide the resources you need to reach your goal.
  • Youth Engagement: The PICC Youth Team promote positive behaviours, healthy lifestyles, as well as drug and substance avoidance through school-based and individual yarning sessions.
  • Mobile Health Clinics: PICC brings preventative care, community-led campaigns and smoking cessation resources directly to local schools and other locations across community.
  • Hypnotherapy: If you are diagnosed with a chronic condition your Doctor can also refer you to the Hypnotherapy and Emotional Freedom Centre to Stop smoking naturally through a combination of psychological and clinical interventions.
