Family Fun Day Raises Awareness of a Serious Issue

Last month Palm Island came together to say Not now, not ever to domestic and family violence.

On 28th October Bwgcolman Family Fun Day was held to bring the Palm community together to show everyone that Palm will never tolerate violence in the home.

The Family Fun Day had stalls with information and advice, activities and a community barbecue. The central event was a march and candlelight vigil to commemorate those who have suffered because of violence in their homes and to demonstrate that the Palm community is united against violence.

Services and organisations across Palm joined in the event, including organisations in the Palm Island DV Network. PICC is grateful for their participation and support in organising and running Bwgcolman Family Fun Day for 2020.

Bwgcolman Family Fun Day was to mark Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, which was May, but the event was postponed to October because of the risk of COVID–19.

Bwgcolman Family Fun Day was an initiative of PICC and the former Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women as part of the Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month grants programme.
