Meet the Board

PICC also acts as a bridge between the government and non-government sectors. It supports existing non-government organisations on the island, attracts funding and expands services where there is a need.

 

The directors on the board are a representation of the three partners in the company – the Palm Island Community, the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council and the Queensland State Government.


Jim Petrich AM

Independent Chair

Jim brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He was for ten years the Chief Executive Officer for the Cape York Peninsula Development Association and in this position he also chaired the Cape York Peninsula Land Use Strategy. Prior to this Jim was the Executive Director of the Cattlemen’s Union of Australia.

He has been Director of the Far North Queensland Area Consultative Committee, Chair of Cairns Regional Economic Development Corporation, member of the Land Tribunal of Queensland, and a member of the Business Advisory panel to the Minister for Immigration & Multicultural Affairs.

He is currently chair of the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health, Deputy Chair of the Ports Corporation of Queensland and is also an independent trustee/ director on four Indigenous organisations. Jim was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003 and was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005. He is also a Fellow in the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


Rhonda Phillips

Rhonda has expertise in public administration, social policy, program management, social research and human services delivery. She has worked for over 30 years in the community, public and academic sectors, including as a senior executive in the Queensland Department of Housing, and has extensive experience on government and not for profit boards and committees. Her current research interests include social housing management, governance and policy implementation with a particular focus on not for profit affordable housing, Indigenous housing and homelessness.


Mark Johnson

Previously Mark was the Chair of the Island Industries Board, but remains as a member of the Board. He is a practicing solicitor and a member of a number of Tribunals. Mark has been involved in Indigenous affairs for a number of years and has a range of legal experience to bring to the Board of PICC.


Allan Palm Island

Allan Palm Island

Director

Allan is a well respected Traditional Owner of Palm Island and is also a renowned artist who played a role in the designs in the new court house on Palm Island. Allan brings considered experience in working on a wide-range of matters concerning Palm Island and its future development and growth.
